Why Parents of Children with ADHD Are Rediscovering Martial Arts: How Nunchaku Training Builds Focus, Confidence, and Control with GrandMaster Griffin
Reverse Figure 8 & Double Nunchaku Drills: Building Better Concentration One Swing at a Time
One of the biggest challenges many children face today is staying focused. For students with ADHD or those struggling in school, maintaining attention on a single task can feel overwhelming. At Griffin Martial Arts, we believe that concentration can be developed through purposeful movement, and our nunchaku training is one exciting way to help students strengthen that skill.
The Reverse Figure 8 and Double Nunchaku Drills are more than flashy martial arts techniques. They require students to pay close attention to hand position, timing, rhythm, body movement, and control. Every repetition challenges the brain and body to work together.
As students practice the reverse figure 8, they learn to move with precision instead of rushing. When they advance to double nunchaku patterns, they must coordinate both hands while maintaining balance and awareness. These exercises encourage students to stay mentally engaged from beginning to end.
For returning students, these drills offer an opportunity to reconnect with familiar skills while taking on new challenges. Success doesn’t come from being perfect on the first attempt. It comes from practicing consistently, learning from mistakes, and improving one repetition at a time. That process helps develop patience, perseverance, and confidence.
Parents often tell us they want activities that keep their children active while also helping them build life skills. Martial arts training offers both. While every child is unique, many parents appreciate that structured practice gives children an opportunity to work on listening, following directions, and completing tasks in a positive environment.
During this demonstration, GrandMaster Griffin showcases:
• Reverse Figure 8 Drills
• Forward Figure 8 Drills
• Over-the-Arm Switches
• Double Nunchaku Patterns
• Crisscross Drills
• Striking Drills
• Speed and Control Training
Each drill is designed to reinforce focus through repetition, discipline, and deliberate practice. Students learn that slowing down and concentrating often produces better results than trying to move as fast as possible.
Our private martial arts lessons allow instruction to be tailored to each student’s age, experience level, and learning pace. Whether your child is returning to martial arts after time away or is looking for additional one-on-one guidance, personalized coaching can help them build confidence while continuing to develop important physical and mental skills.
At Griffin Martial Arts, our mission is to help students become stronger not only in martial arts but also in character. We celebrate effort, encourage growth, and create an environment where students can experience success one lesson at a time.
If you’re looking for a positive activity that encourages concentration, coordination, and confidence, we’d love the opportunity to work with your family.
